Individual Therapy for Black Women in Atlanta: Close the Gap Between Looking Successful and Feeling It
You look successful. The career, the accomplishments, the way you show up for everyone — it's all there. But privately? Something feels off. You're exhausted in a way a vacation can't fix. You're overthinking decisions you should feel confident making. You're giving everything to everyone else and wondering when it will finally feel like enough.
That gap — between how your life looks and how it actually feels — is real. And closing it is exactly what we do.
At Javery Integrative Wellness Services (JIWS), we provide individual therapy designed specifically for high-achieving Black women in Atlanta and across Georgia. Our approach is culturally responsive, holistic, and grounded in a deep understanding of what it means to carry the weight of generational expectations while trying to build a life that actually feels like yours. Understanding Individual Therapy at JIWS
Individual therapy is a personal journey towards greater self-awareness, healing, and growth. We offer 50-minute sessions tailored to meet your unique needs, with the option to request longer sessions if necessary. Our approach combines traditional therapeutic techniques with cultural understanding and holistic wellness practices to support your complete mental and emotional well-being.
Sound Familiar? You're Not Alone.
Many of the Black women who come to us aren't in crisis. They're high-functioning, accomplished, and capable — and they're tired of feeling disconnected from the life they've worked so hard to build.
You might recognize yourself in some of these:
You've mastered looking like you have it together, even when you're falling apart inside
You say yes when you mean no, and you're not sure how to stop
You've inherited patterns from your family that you don't want to pass on — but you're not sure how to break them
Success feels hollow. You've achieved what you set out to do, but the satisfaction isn't there
You're the strong one. The reliable one. And you're exhausted by it.
Therapy at JIWS creates space for you to put that weight down — without judgment, without having to explain your entire cultural context, and without being told to "just think positive."
What Therapy at JIWS Actually Looks Like
Individual therapy sessions at JIWS are 50 minutes, held virtually via our secure telehealth platform so you can access care from anywhere in Georgia — whether you're in Atlanta, Stockbridge, Marietta, or beyond.
From your very first session, you'll work with a therapist who understands your lived experience as a Black woman. You won't need to over-explain. You won't be met with blank stares when you describe code-switching at work or the pressure to hold it together for your family. You'll be met where you are.
Our approach blends evidence-based therapeutic techniques with cultural wisdom, somatic healing practices, and practical tools you can use in your daily life — not just in the therapy room.
What We Work On Together
Breaking Generational Patterns
So much of what keeps high-achieving Black women stuck isn't personal failure — it's inherited survival scripts. Patterns passed down through generations that once protected your family but no longer serve you. We help you identify those patterns, understand where they came from, and consciously choose something different.
Burnout, Perfectionism & People-Pleasing
If you've built your life around being capable, reliable, and self-sufficient, slowing down can feel dangerous. We help you understand why — and create a sustainable path forward that doesn't require you to sacrifice yourself to succeed.
Work-Life Balance & Career Stress
Imposter syndrome. Workplace microaggressions. The pressure to perform twice as hard to be seen half as much. We help you navigate professional life without losing yourself in it, and build the confidence to advocate for what you deserve.
Identity, Authenticity & Self-Worth
There's a version of you that exists beneath all the roles you play — the daughter, the professional, the provider, the strong one. Therapy creates space to reconnect with her: your desires, your values, your actual definition of a life well-lived.
Healing from Racial Trauma
The cumulative weight of living in a Black body in America is real and documented. Our therapists are equipped to hold space for racial trauma, microaggressions, and the particular exhaustion that comes with navigating systems not designed for you.
Grief, Loss & Life Transitions
Whether you're navigating the death of a loved one, a relationship ending, a career shift, or the quiet grief of the life you thought you'd have by now — we walk alongside you through it.
Why Black Women Choose JIWS
We specialize exclusively in serving Black women, couples, and families. This isn't a practice that happens to have one diverse therapist. Every clinician at JIWS is trained in culturally responsive care, and our entire approach is built around the specific experiences, strengths, and challenges of Black women.
We focus on transformation, not just symptom management. The goal isn't to help you cope with a life that doesn't fit. It's to help you build one that actually does.
We meet you where you are. Whether you're in the middle of a crisis or simply feeling the slow drain of a life lived for everyone else, there's a place for you here.
We offer flexible access. All sessions are held virtually, making it easy to fit therapy into a demanding schedule — from anywhere in Georgia.

You Might Be Wondering…
-
No. In fact, most of our clients aren't in crisis — they're high-functioning women who've realized that functioning well isn't the same as living well. You don't need to hit a breaking point to deserve support.
-
Yes. This is the foundation of everything we do. Our therapists don't just have cultural competency training — they have lived experience and deep specialization in the specific pressures Black women navigate. You won't have to spend your sessions educating your therapist.
-
Choosing to close the gap between surviving and thriving is one of the strongest things you can do — for yourself, for your relationships, and for the generations behind you. Strength includes knowing when to ask for support.
-
We'll work together to find what does. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, and good therapists adapt. If your approach needs to shift, we shift with you.
-
Individual sessions are $125. We accept Aetna, Cigna and BCBS, and sliding scale options are available through Open Path Collective for those who qualify. Complete the intake form and we'll discuss the options that work best for you. We believe healing shouldn't be a luxury.
